EVANSTON, Ill. – The University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving team trails Ohio State, 63.50-43.50 and is tied with Nebraska, 55-55, following the first session of the Northwestern Invitational inside the Norris Aquatics Center.
Junior Emily Hovren collected a first place finish for Iowa in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:02.61 to claim the victory. Freshman Allie Orvis swam a time of 2:06.22 to finish fifth in the event.
Becky Stoughton collected a second place finish for the Hawkeyes. The sophomore touched the wall in 4:53.26 to finish second in the 500 free. Junior Lindsay Seemann finished fifth in the event with a time of 4:58.41.
Junior Abby Grilli finished strong in the 3-meter. She collected 298.75 points to finish as the runner-up in the event.
The Hawkeyes finished fourth in 200 free relay “A” final. The quartet of freshman Olivia Kabacinski, sophomore Heather Arseth, junior Elise Borja, and Orvis swam to the wall in 1:35.04 to finish fourth overall.
Kabacinski and Arseth collected sixth and eighth place finishes for the Hawkeyes in the 50 freestyle. Kabacinski swam a time of 23.83 to tie for sixth place in the event. Arseth touched the wall in 23.87 to finish eighth overall.
Iowa concluded the session with the 400 medley relay. The quartet of Arseth, junior Karolina Wartalowicz, sophomore Abbey Tuchscherer, and Kabacinski finished in fifth in the “A” final (3:49.11).
