IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Iowa City first and second round site of the 2013 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championships, hosted by the University of Iowa, recorded the third-highest attendance figure among the 16 sites selected to host. Only Waco (9,540) and College Station (7,225) had a higher attendance number.
Women’s basketball fans in the state of Iowa flocked to Carver-Hawkeye Arena to see NCAA women’s basketball action, despite snow and other inclement weather conditions.
“We are extremely thankful that fans came to Iowa City to watch the NCAA Tournament,” head coach Lisa Bluder said. “We can’t thank our fans enough for not only supporting our team, but for supporting women’s basketball. Last night was a very special night in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.”
Iowa last hosted NCAA Tournament action in 2009 and had the fourth-best attended site, despite late tip-off times on a Sunday.
Action resumes in Iowa City on Tuesday, as No. 1 seed Notre Dame faces No. 9 seed Iowa at 8:30 p.m. (CT). Tickets are available by calling 1-800-IA-HAWKS or by visiting hawkeyesports.com.
