CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Iowa men’s basketball team punched its ticket to the semifinals of the 2013 National Invitation Tournament with a 75-64 victory Wednesday night over the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Virginia Cavaliers inside the UV’s John Paul Jones Arena.

The victory sends Iowa packing for New York City and a date with another ACC powerhouse, Maryland, on Tuesday, April 2. That game will be the second of two semifinals to be played in the Big Apple’s Madison Square Garden. Tipoff is scheduled for shortly after 9 p.m. ET; the game will be televised live by ESPN2.

Tickets to the Hawkeyes’ game against the Terrapins are available for purchase online HERE. Tickets can also be purchased over-the-counter at The Garden’s Box Office located on 7th Avenue between 33rd and 31st streets.

Fran McCaffery’s squad will be heading to New York City with a bucketful of momentum propelling it forward. Iowa’s win over Virginia was its 10th in its last 13 games and third straight in post-season play. The Hawkeyes’ victory also snapped a 19-game winning streak inside UVa’s John Paul Jones Arena for the Cavaliers and was easily Iowa’s biggest road victory of the 2012-13 season.

Tuesday’s game will be Iowa’s first as a member of the final four teams to advance to the semifinal round of the postseason NIT.
