Hawkeyes Finish 32nd at NCAAs

INDIANAPOLIS — The University of Iowa men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2013 NCAA Championships, tallying 14 points to finish 32nd overall int he team standings.

It is the program’s third straight top-35 finish. Iowa was 35th in 2011 before finishing 26th a season ago.

During Saturday’s preliminary round, sophomore Grant Betulius swam to the wall in 1:43.93 in the 200 backstroke, a time that ranks second in the Iowa record books. He finished in 32nd place in the event.

Freshman Roman Trussov competed in the 200-breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:56.93 to finish 24th.

The Hawkeyes had a strong showing at the championship, earning honorable mention All-America honors in the 200 and 400-medley relays. Betulius also garnered honorable mention All-America honors individually in the 100-yard backstroke.

Iowa return to action April 13, hosting the Long Course Intrasquad Meet in Iowa City.
