NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Iowa women’s soccer team remained unbeaten on the spring season, keeping its shutout streak alive in the process, after a pair of games Saturday at Notre Dame. The Hawkeyes battled to a scoreless draw against the Fighting Irish and defeated IPFW, 2-0, to improve to 3-0-1 in the spring exhibition season.
Playing in windy conditions, neither Iowa or Notre Dame were able to get on the board in the morning game. The Fighting Irish advanced to the NCAA Championships in the fall and defeated the Mexico Under-20 National Team the day before being held scoreless by Iowa.
The Hawkeyes gave another staunch defensive effort against IPFW in the afternoon, prevailng two goals to nil. Junior Ashley Catrell provided both of Iowa’s goals in the game, improving her spring goal total to four. The Overland Park, Kan., native scored seven goals in the fall.
The Hawkeyes have yet to allow a goal this spring, improving their shutout steak to 360 minutes. Iowa set a program record for shutouts in a season last fall with 10. Iowa has outscored its opponents 10-0 in exhibition play.
Iowa will host its final match of the spring season on Saturday, April 13, against Marquette. First touch is set for 10 a.m. (CT). The Golden Eagles reached the third round of the NCAA Championshps in the fall.
