IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s tennis team (7-15, 0-10) fell to Wisconsin (12-10, 3-7) Friday afternoon at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex, 5-2.

Iowa started off strong winning the first two doubles matches to gain the doubles point. Joey White and Michael Swank took down Kokorev and Satral of Wisconsin, 8-5 playing in the No. 3 doubles slot. Next, Jonas Dierckx and Juan Estenssoro defeated Jalalov and Wikberg of Wisconsin, 8-5 in the No. 2 doubles slot. Garret Dunn and Matt Hagan did not finish their doubles match once Iowa secured the doubles point.

The Hawkeyes struggled in singles action falling in 5-of-6 matches. Dierckx picked up the lone win for Iowa defeating Satral of Wisconsin in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5.

“This is a match I felt we should have won,” said head coach Steve Houghton. “We had tons of chances to win either in match points or serving for the set and we blew some leads that you can’t afford lose against Big Ten teams. Our skill level is there but we’ve had a really difficult time converting in key situations.”

The Hawkeyes play their last regular season match of the season on Sunday at Minnesota at noon.
