Hawkeyes Debut at No. 12 in USTFCCCA Rankings

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s track and field team debuted at No. 12 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 25 Division I National Team Computer Rankings. The national ranking is the highest in program history.

The Hawkeyes are one of five Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25. Only Penn State (11) is ranked ahead of Iowa. Nebraska (15), Indiana (21) and Ohio State (23) are also represented in the poll.

The Hawkeyes have five individuals and one relay team ranked in the top 15 nationally. Justin Austin ranks fourth in the 200 meters. He also ran the second leg on the fifth-ranked 4×100-meter relay. Ethan Holmes is ranked in the top 15 in both the 400 meters and the 110-meter hurdles. He is ranked seventh in the 400, and shares the No. 15 spot in the 110-meter hurdles with teammate Jordan Mullen.

In the field events, Gabe Hull ranks No. 6 in the discus, and three-time Big Ten champion Matt Byers ranks No. 12 in the javelin.

The 12th-ranked Hawkeyes continue action this week at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. Competition begins Thursday and concludes Saturday.
