MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — University of Iowa women’s gymnastics signee, Angel Metcalf, finished seventh on balance beam last weekend at the Junior Olympic National Championships.
The high school senior from Matthews, N.C. signed a national letter of intent last November and will join the program this fall.
For her outstanding beam routine, Metcalf posted 9.450. In the all-around, Metcalf registered 35.875, placing 47th. Metcalf earned 9.375 on the vault (33rd), 8.450 (53rd) on bars and 8.600 (55th) on floor.
Also joining the GymHawks in August are Amanda Kowalski and Lexi Mura. Kowalski, of Mason, Ohio, finished sixth in the all-around at the 2012 J.O. Nationals. Mura, of Belleville, Ill., qualified to the 2013 Region V Championships after placing third in the all-around at the Illinois State Championships.
