2013 Schedule

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Head coach Ron Rainey and the University of Iowa women’s soccer team announced its 2013 schedule Tuesday. The Hawkeyes, coming off their most successful two-year span in program history, will play 20 games this fall.

Meeting five teams that advanced to the NCAA Championships last season, the Hawkeyes will face stiff competition both in Big Ten play and out of conference when they return to the pitch. The Hawkeyes will meet eight teams that posted double-digit win totals in 2012. Iowa will play within the confines of the Iowa Soccer Complex for 10 games, and will meet nine nonconference foes and all 11 Big Ten opponents.

“We’re excited about this schedule and are looking forward to the 2013 season,” said Rainey, Iowa’s all-time winningest coach. “Our spring season went well as we dealt with losing six seniors to graduation. We hope to build on our new team chemistry as we welcome our 2013 additions and look to gel quickly heading into August. We are three months away, but I know the team and the coaches are already excited and thinking about the fall season.”

The Hawkeyes will look to win the state title for the sixth straight season, and will open the season Aug. 23 with an in-state match against Drake. The Hawkeyes also host Iowa State on Sept. 6 and Northern Iowa on Sept. 17 for state bragging rights.

Iowa’s home opener is Aug. 25 against Western Michigan. Iowa will then travel to the Pacific Tournament in Stockton, Calif., where it will meet UC Davis and Pacific. Iowa also hosts Wright State (Sept. 8) and Saint Louis (Sept. 13). The Hawkeyes have finished nonconference play undefeated in the past two seasons.

Big Ten action gets underway Sept. 22 in Iowa City against Michigan. Iowa will host the Wolverines, Michigan State, Penn State, Ohio State and Purdue in conference play in 2013. From Sept. 27-Oct.20, Iowa will play 6-of-7 conference games away from home. Iowa closes the regular season with Senior Day on Nov. 2, hosting Purdue.

The 2013 Big Ten Tournament is Nov. 6-10 in Champaign, Ill.

Iowa finished its spring season with an unblemished 5-0-2 record and outscored its opponents 16-4. The Hawkeyes went 12-6-3 last season and earned a spot in the Big Ten Tournament.
