IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s basketball team held its annual Golf Extravaganza on Monday at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City.

“This kicks our summer off,” said UI head coach Lisa Bluder. “This event brings together so many great Hawkeye women’s basketball supporters. We appreciate them so much, and to get together with them is a lot of fun for us.”

For participants, the 18-hole, four-person best-shot included two meals, hole and door prizes and awards for low scores. Proceeds from the tournament help fund Iowa’s foreign trip.

“This is our only fundraiser we have for our foreign trip program, which we can do once every four years,” said Bluder. “We are about two years out from our next trip.”

It also provides a perfect opportunity for the Hawkeyes and their fans to spend a great day together, away from the court.

“It was really fun,” said senior Theairra Taylor. “A lot of our true Hawkeye fans were here to support us. They are excited to be here, and we are excited they are here.”

The Extravaganza gives supporters a chance to see the team in a different capacity.

“It is nice to see how the players react with one another,” said Iowa supporter Randy Larson. “One of the trademarks of Lisa Bluder’s team has been how well they like each other. They really are a family, and that is fun to see.”

“It is a great group of people to support,” said Hawkeye fan and supporter John Evans. “The coaches and players are great.”
