IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa men’s tennis player Jonas Dierckx will travel to Tulsa, Okla. this weekend to compete in the ITA All-American Tournament. The tournament, which features the top collegiate players from across the country, will begin on Saturday, Sep. 28, and run through Wed. Oct. 2.
Dierckx, who sat out the team’s first tournament last weekend to prepare for the All-American tournament is excited to start competing.
“I played my last tournament back in August, so it’s been a while,” said Dierckx. “It’s exciting to start playing again.”
Iowa assistant coach Ross Wilson is looking forward to how Dierckx does against the top collegiate tennis players.
“I think Jonas has prepared well for it. He played a ton of tournaments over the summer, ” said Wilson. “He is working hard and striking the ball well and I’m looking forward to seeing him play against some of the top players in the country.”
Dierckx, who played in the All-American tournament two years ago, feels like the level of talent he will see this weekend will be similar to what he will see against the top Big Ten players. For Dierckx, the key is starting off strong.
“The first match will be the most important one to get my confidence up for the rest of the tournament,” said Dierckx. “This tournament is similar to playing against a No. 1 or a No. 2 in the Big Ten which is exciting.”
