Hawkeyes Set to Tee Off in Texas

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf team travels to Austin, Texas, Sept. 30- Oct. 1 to compete in the Challenge at Onion Creek hosted by Texas State. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the Onion Creek Club. Both days begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be available via the Iowa women’s golf schedule page throughout the tournament.

THE LINE-UP
Shelby Phillips, Jessie Sindlinger, Briana Midkiff, Lauren English, Nicole Rae, and Allison Lindley (as an individual) will be competing for the Hawkeyes.

THE COMPETITION
The 13-team field consists of Arkansas-Little Rock, Eastern Michigan, Gonzaga, Idaho, Iowa, IUPUI, Kennesaw State, Seattle, South Dakota State, Stephen F. Austin St., Texas State, Texas Tech, and Washington State.

LAST TIME OUT
Freshman Jessie Sindlinger paced the Hawkeyes at the Branch Law Firm-Dick McGuire Invitational, firing a 223 (+4) to tie for 18th place. As a team, Iowa carded a 54-hole score of 927 (+51) to finish the tournament 12th in a field of 16 teams.

STRONG START FOR PHILLIPS
In her first tournament of the year, junior Shelby Phillips fired a 67 (-5) to tie Iowa’s all-time best single round performance and set a new Chip-N-Club Invitational tournament record. Phillips carded a 220 (+4) to tie for fifth place overall. Her score contributed to Iowa’s fourth place finish in a field of 13 teams.

HAWKEYES SET TO HOST INVITATIONAL
The Hawkeyes are set for their home debut Oct.12-13 when they host the Diane Thomason Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be held at Finkbine Golf Course with an 8:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start both days. The 12-team field features Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee, USF, Augusta State, and Campbell.
