Hawkeyes Wrap-Up Final Scrimmage Before Head of the Iowa

Oct. 12, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s rowing team concluded a two-day scrimmage against Indiana University on the Iowa River on Saturday morning.

Unlike yesterday’s competition, no times were recorded, as each boat raced five 1000 lengths of the Iowa River.

In the first wave, Iowa’s 1V8+ boat went 3-1-1 against the Hoosiers and the 2V8+ went 1-4. In the second wave, Iowa’s 1V4+ boat went 2-3 against the Hoosiers. In the final wave of the scrimmage, both the 1N8+ and 2N8+ Iowa boats went 3-0.

UI head coach Andrew Carter was pleased with how the scrimmage turned out.

“I think the scrimmage went very well, overall,” Carter said. “It was a good format for both schools to take some good lessons away. We had some really good flashes in there and we were building on some of the principles that we’ve been working on. But it also exposed a lot of areas that we need to charter path forward.”

The Hawkeyes finish the fall season hosting the annual Head of the Iowa on Oct. 27 at Lake MacBride in Solon, Iowa.
