Logic, Taylor Named Team Captains

Oct. 30, 2013

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Senior Theairra Taylor and junior Samantha Logic have been named team captains for the 2013-14 season, UI head coach Lisa Bluder announced Wednesday.

“Theairra and Samantha are exceptional leaders and will serve as terrific role models for our young players,” said Bluder. “They are perfect examples of what a true student-athlete should be within our program.”

Taylor, Iowa’s lone senior, started all 34 games in 2013 after missing a total of 53 games from 2009-11 due to injury. The St. Paul, Minn., native was named the team’s Most Improved Player last season, scoring in double figures in 12 contests. The 5-foot-11 guard averaged 8.7 points and 4.5 rebounds.

Logic, a junior from Racine, Wis., started all 34 games last season and was a third team All-Big Ten selection. The 5-foot-9 guard set the school record for single-season assists (217) and single-game assists (14 vs. Texas, Dec. 28). Logic tallied five double-doubles, and led the Big Ten and ranked 15th in the NCAA in assists per game (6.4).

Iowa — the only Big Ten team to appear in the last six NCAA Tournaments — hosts Concordia-St. Paul in an exhibition Sunday at 1 p.m. before opening the regular season in the Hawkeye Challenge on Nov. 8 against UC Riverside (6 p.m.).
