IOWA CITY, Iowa — Natalie Cafone and Dani Hemeon of the University of Iowa field hockey team have been named 2013 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Americans. Cafone was named to the second team, while Hemeon garnered third team honors.
Cafone and Hemeon are the 84th and 85th national All-Americans in program history. Only four programs nationally have had more.
“I am thrilled for Natalie and Dani,” said UI head coach Tracey Griesbaum. “Both had outstanding seasons, and the Iowa field hockey program is very proud of their accomplishments. Having 85 national All-Americans is an accomplishment that all Hawkeyes can be proud of.”
Cafone earns her first career All-America accolade after posting team highs in points (52) and goals (22). The sophomore led the nation with 2.48 points per game and tied for second nationally with 1.05 goals per game. The Fairfield, N.J., native was also named to the All-Big Ten first team, the Big Ten All-Tournament team, and the NFHCA West Region All-America first team.
Hemeon, a junior, earns her first All-America recognition after recording 30 points and 13 goals. The Gilroy, Calif., native was also named to the All-Big Ten first team, the Big Ten All-Tournament team, and the NFHCA West Region All-America first team.
Twenty players have been selected as national All-Americans under Griesbaum, and for the second-straight year, Iowa has had two honorees.
Iowa advanced to the Big Ten Tournament Championship game, finishing the season with a 13-8 overall record.
