TAMPA, Fla. — Head south this New Year’s to sunny Tampa Bay for football in paradise.

The LSU Tigers and Iowa Hawkeyes will meet at Raymond James Stadium to play in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1. With high temperatures around 70 degrees and an average of 361 days with some sunshine, it’s the perfect time of year to enjoy a football game and other outdoor activities.

To mingle with the players before the game, watch as they compete in bowling at Players Night at Splitsville on Dec. 28. Or see the Tampa Bay Lightning vs. the New York Rangers at the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Dec. 29 for a team night hosted by the Lightning.

Football fans can cheer on their favorite team and experience Tampa’s Historic Latin Quarter of Ybor City during the Outback Bowl New Year’s Eve Parade and Pep Rally. Afterwards, pop the cork at a range of New Year’s Eve festivities. Take the TECO Line Streetcar from Ybor City to Aqua-Eve at the Florida Aquarium, or enjoy fireworks from the water on the Tampa Water Taxi or the Yacht Starship. For an elegant and mysterious celebration, head to The Rooftop Eve overlooking Hyde Park Village and dress the part for the Moulin Rouge theme.

Stay a few days before or after the game and take in Tampa’s best eco-tourism adventures. Paddle your way through the Hillsborough River at Canoe Escape and see birds, turtles, gators and native wildlife on a two-hour to full-day excursion.

For the more adventurous type, explore the bay waters with Speedboat Adventures – exhilarating drive-your-own speedboat tours of Tampa Bay’s diverse marine life. Or cruise the waters on an electric boat with eBOATS TAMPA. Stop and explore Downtown Tampa, take a guided tour, or picnic onboard as you watch the sunset — no boater’s license needed for either experience.

Stay on land and roll your way around Tampa’s Riverwalk and the streets of downtown with Magic Carpet Glide — Tampa Bay Segway Tours. Or buy locally-made goods and produce at one of the area markets — Ybor Saturday Market, Downtown Market (on Sundays) or Hyde Park Village Fresh Market (first Sunday of the month).
