IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa football program ranked 23rd in the nation in home attendance during the 2013 season, averaging 67,125 per game in Kinnick Stadium. Iowa is one of seven Big Ten schools ranked in the top 25. Iowa ranked 21st in home attendance four straight years from 2009-12.
The Big Ten Conference ranked second among all conferences with a 70,431 average, an increase of over 300 fans per game from 2012. Michigan led all schools with a per game average of 111,592, followed by Ohio State (104,933), Alabama (101,505), Texas (98,976) and Penn State (96,587). The SEC averaged 75,674 fans per game to lead all conferences.
In addition to once again ranking among the national leaders in home attendance, Iowa ranked 22nd nationally in attendance for all games. Iowa’s 13 games last fall averaged 66,686 fans.
The Hawkeyes posted an 8-5 record in 2013, earning a spot in the 2014 Outback Bowl. Iowa’s 5-3 mark in Big Ten Conference play earned a second place finish in the Legends Division behind league champion Michigan State.
Iowa, in 2014, will host Northern Iowa (Aug. 30), Ball State (Sept. 6), Iowa State (Sept. 13), Indiana (Oct. 11 – Homecoming), Northwestern (Nov. 1), Wisconsin (Nov. 22) and Nebraska (Nov. 28) at Kinnick Stadium in 2014. The Hawkeyes will compete in the West Division of the Big Ten, along with Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin.
