Hawkeyes Compete in Day 1 of Husker Invite

LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Iowa track and field team qualified two individuals for event finals on the first day of competition at the Husker Invitational on Friday. The event was held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska.

Freshman Brittany Brown tied her personal-best, school-record-setting 60 meters time to qualify for the event finals. Brown clocked a time of 7.41 to finish third, overall, in the prelims. The 60-meters final is set for tomorrow at 2:13 p.m. (CT).

Tevin-Cee Mincy qualified for the men’s 60 meter finals. The senior clocked a preliminary time of 6.78 to finish fourth. The men’s 60-meters final is set for tomorrow at 2:17 p.m. (CT).

O’Shea Wilson finished second in the men’s long jump. The freshman recorded a mark of 24-2 ¼ (7.37m). Sophomore Kerry Dean Jr. (22-7 ¼; 6.89m) finished 10th in the event.

Sophomore MonTayla Holder and freshman Elexis Guster competed in the women’s 400 meters. Holder clocked a time of 55.18 to finish sixth, while Guster came in ninth with a time of 55.54. Junior Kaleb VanCleave earned 10th-place finish in the men’s 400 meters when he crossed the line in 48.66.

Senior Carisa Leacock grabbed a sixth-place finish in the women’s long jump. Leacock recorded a season-best leap of 19-1 ¼ (5.82m). Senior Zinnia Miller recorded a personal-best leap of 18-10 ½ (5.75m) to finish ninth. Her mark ranks eighth all-time at Iowa. Junior Sarah Ryan (18-4 ½; 5.60m) finished 11th in the event.

Junior Annemie Smith finished sixth in the women’s weight throw with a toss of 59-7 ½ (18.17m). Seniors Ashlyn Gulvas (57-0 ¾; 17.39m) and Jasmine Simpson (56-11 ½; 17.36m) finished ninth and 11th, respectively.

The Husker Invitational resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. (CT).
