Hawkeyes Compete in Day 1 of Tyson Invite

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Iowa track and field team sent several athletes to the Tyson Invitational on Friday. The meet was held at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

Brittany Brown ran to a sixth-place finish in the women’s 60 meters. The freshman clocked times of 7.47 in the prelims, 7.42 in the semi-finals, and 7.44 in the event final. Lake Kwaza also competed in the event. The sophomore clocked a time of 7.54 in the prelim, and 7.51 in the semi-final to finish 14th overall. Sophomore James Harrington (30th; 6.92) and freshman O’Shea Wilson (39th; 7.00) competed in the men’s 60 meters.

Senior Ethan Holmes grabbed an eighth-place finish in the men’s 60-meter hurdles. Holmes clocked a season-best time of 7.92 in prelims, 7.99 in the semi-final, and 8.08 in the event finals.

The Hawkeyes competed in the women’s 400 meters. Sophomore MonTayla Holder finished 18th with a time of 54.58, while freshmen Elexis Guster (55.27) and Alexis Hernandez (55.91) finished 26th and 33rd, respectively. Junior Kaleb VanCleave and freshman Jared Ganschow competed in the men’s 400 meters. VanCleave finished 26th with a time of 48.47, while Ganschow clocked a time of 49.06 to finished 35th.

Mahnee Watts and Will Teubel competed in the 800 meters. Watts grabbed an 11th-place finish in the women’s event. The freshman clocked a time of 2:12.88. Teubel finished 12th in the men’s event. The sophomore recorded a personal-best time of 1:52.25. Sophomore Kaitlyn Nelson grabbed a 17th-place finish in the women’s 800 meters championship when she clocked a time of 2:12.91.

Freshman O’Shea Wilson earned a 13th-place finish in the men’s long jump. Wilson recorded a mark of 23-10 ¾ (7.28m).

The Tyson Invitational resumes Saturday at noon (CT).
