Iowa Soccer Wins Spring Opener

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa soccer team opened its spring season with a 4-1 victory over Western Illinois on Saturday inside the UI’s Indoor Practice Facility.

The Hawkeyes got goals from junior Cloe Lacasse, junior Katie Nasenbenny, sophomore Lana Bonekemper and junior Melanie Pickert. Freshman Bri Toelle tallied a pair of assists, while Lacasse, Pickert and sophomore Meredith McEniff also were credited with assists.

“It was a good start to the spring season,” said UI head coach Ron Rainey, who led the Hawkeyes to a school-record 15 victories and their first NCAA Tournament berth in 2013. “It was nice to see contributions from everybody on our roster.”

Iowa will return to action March 8, facing fellow NCAA qualifier Arkansas in St. Louis.
