AMES, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team fell at Iowa State, 195.925-192.725, Friday night inside Hilton Coliseum.
Iowa began the meet on bars where junior Sydney Hoerr paced the Hawkeyes with a 9.900 and came in second on the event. The GymHawks tallied an overall total of 48.925. Iowa State started off on vault posting a 48.675, giving the Hawkeyes the lead heading into the second rotation.
Once on vault, the GymHawks tallied a 48.625 with freshmen Ashleigh Edlin, Caroline McCrady and Metcalf all registering 9.750. Iowa trailed 97.950-97.550 heading into floor routines.
During the third rotation, the Hawkeyes recorded a 48.800 on floor. Hoerr once again paved the way for the GymHawks with a 9.850 with freshman Mollie Drenth close behind posting a 9.800.
While on beam, Iowa State tallied a 48.825 and maintained the lead going into the final rotation. The score stood at 146.775-146.350 as Iowa headed to the beam.
On beam, the GymHawks registered a 46.375. Sophomores Maryah Huntley and Alie Glover both scored 9.650. The Cyclones concluded the floor routines with a 49.150 and took the meet 195.925-192.725.
Glover, Hoerr, and Metcalf all competed for the all-around title for Iowa, posting 38.850, 38.450, and 38.200 respectively. Glover finished third behind Iowa State’s Caitlin Brown (39.250) and Henrietta Green (38.925).
The Hawkeyes return to action on March 15 in Ann Arbor, Mich. for the B1G Quad Meet. Iowa will face Michigan, Minnesota, and Penn State in the meet set to begin at 12:30 p.m. (CT) inside Crisler Center.
