BIG TEN SEASON CONTINUES FOR NO. 65 HAWKEYES
The University of Iowa women’s tennis team continues conference play Friday at Minnesota beginning at 3 p.m. (CT) at the Baseline Tennis Center. The Hawkeye then return home to host Wisconsin on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT) at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
SCOUTING THE GOPHERS
Minnesota enters Friday’s match riding a four-game win streak with an 11-3 overall record. The Gophers are 1-0 in conference play, topping Wisconsin, 4-3. Iowa took last year’s contest between the two, 6-1, but Minnesota leads the all-time series, 35-20.
SCOUTING THE BADGERS
Wisconsin owns a 5-4 overall record and is 0-1 in conference play. The Badgers travel to Iowa City after a home match against Nebraska on Friday. Wisconsin owns the series advantage, 36-9. The last time the Hawkeyes defeated Wisconsin was on April 18, 2010, in a 5-2 victory.
HAWKEYS CLIMBING THE RANKINGS
Iowa moved up five spots in the latest ITA rankings released Tuesday afternoon. After coming in at No. 70 last week, the Hawkeyes moved up to claim the 65 spot.
DOUBLES PROVE TO BE CRITICAL
The Hawkeyes are 8-0 when winning the doubles point this year. Iowa is 0-4 when losing the doubles point.
SEABORNE WINS FIRST CAREER AWARD
Senior Ruth Seaborne was named the Big Ten’s Athlete of the Week by the league office on Tuesday, marking her first career award as a Hawkeye. Seaborne helped Iowa top Nebraska on March 14, 6-1, with victories at No. 1 singles and doubles. Ranked No. 86 in singles, Seaborne has won six-straight matches. Sonja Molnar was the last Hawkeye to receive the honor (April 17, 2012).
