Men's Golf in Fourth After Day One of Boilermaker Invite

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind – The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished the first day of the Boilermaker Invitational at Kampen Golf Course in fourth place out of 15 teams, carding a 15-over-par total score of 591 (300, 291) in 36 holes.

Senior Steven Ihm led the charge for Iowa on the first day, carding a one-over-par score of 145 (72, 73) in 36 holes. Ihm is currently tied for 10th individually. The Peosta, Iowa, native won last year’s Boilermaker Invitational.

Junior Ian Vandersee is tied for 20th after posting a four-over-par score of 148 (76, 72). Vandersee birdied three holes in his second round.

Freshman Raymond Knoll is tied for 29th following a five-over-par score of 149 (78, 71).

Junior Brian Bullington is tied for 32nd after carding a six-over-par score of 150 (74, 76). Bullington tied for fourth place individually at last week’s Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City.

Freshman Carson Schaake is tied for 53rd after posting a nine-over-par score of 153 (78, 75). Schaake tied Bullington for fourth place individually at last week’s home event.

“We got off to a good start today and continued to hang in for the entire day,” said head coach Mark Hankins. “We need to continue to learn and stick to our game plan tomorrow.”

Play in the Boilermaker Invitational concludes on Sunday. The final 18 holes will begin with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. (CT). Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com.
