Ripslinger Named Gatorade Iowa Player of the Year

May 21, 2014

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Incoming University of Iowa soccer freshman Rose Ripslinger has been selected as the Gatorade Iowa Girls Soccer Player of the Year for a record fourth-consecutive year. Ripslinger is the first soccer player of either gender to earn the distinction four times in the award’s 29-year history.

The Davenport, Iowa, native, who has scored 104 career goals and tallied 50 career assists, is a three-time first-team all-state, first-team All-Metro soccer team, 1A all-tournament team and first-team all-conference selection. The 2011-12 Quad City Times Female Athlete of the Year also earned All-America status at the U.S. Youth Soccer Championships in Kansas City last summer.

This season, Ripslinger has scored 15 goals and tallied nine assists through 10 games for Davenport Assumption High School, the top-ranked 1A school in the state. She missed two contests this season to compete at the Drake Relays, where she was a member of three winning relays — the third, fourth and fifth Drake Relays titles of her career.

Ripslinger will join the Hawkeyes in the fall and play under first-year head coach Dave DiIanni.
