Ihm, Yankovich Place High in Amateur Events

June 18, 2014

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Recent University of Iowa graduate Steven Ihm and junior Nate Yankovich earned top finishes in amateur events in June, with both players carding scores below par in their respective events. Ihm tied for sixth in the 61st Annual Sunnehanna Amateur in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, while Yankovich tied for 12th at the 99th Annual Southwestern Amateur in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Ihm’s sixth place finish comes one year after the Peosta, Iowa, native took medalist honors at the same tournament. Ihm posted a three-under-par score of 277 (66-72-69-70) over four days, notching 16 birdies and one eagle in the process.

In his senior season as a Hawkeye, Ihm won the third and fourth tournament titles (Hawkeye-GRE Invitational, Boilermaker Invitational) of his career, tying for second-most career individual tournament victories in program history.

Yankovich, a native of Blacklick, Ohio, carded a one-under-par score of 279 (67-75-68-69) at the Southwestern Amateur. The junior’s best finish of the 2014 season came at the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational, where he tied for 23rd while competing as an individual.

Ihm begins play in the Northeast Amateur in Rumford, Rhode Island, today and is set to make his official professional PGA TOUR debut at the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois, on July 8.
