IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior defensive back Jordan Lomax has been named to the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. For 24 years, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team has recognized college football players from across the country who exemplify a superior commitment to community service and volunteerism.

Lomax (5-foot-10, 205 pounds) is a senior from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors from league coaches a year ago after recording 92 tackles. He started 12 games and played in all 13 contests. He led the Hawkeyes with six pass break-ups, while also collecting one interception and a forced fumble. He earned the team Hustle Award for both defense and special teams in 2014. He previously was named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy preseason Watch List.

The graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School earned academic All-Big Ten honors each of the past two seasons. The economics major was named to the Capital One Academic District 6 first team a year ago and has been a member of the UI’s Dean’s List. Lomax carries a 3.52 grade point average and has been a member of Iowa’s Leadership Group for the past two seasons.

Throughout his college career Lomax has been involved in a number of community service projects, including the Hawkeye Readers Program, Hawkeye Pride Mentoring Program, Ladies Football Academy, Football Leadership Retreat, Camp Courageous, Dance Marathon, and Spring Dance for Children’s Center for Therapy. He has also been a frequent visitor to patients at both the UI Children’s Hospital and the VA Hospital.

Comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA, the final roster of 22 award recipients will be unveiled in September.

Iowa opens the 2015 season on Saturday, Sept. 5, hosting Illinois State inside Kinnick Stadium (11 a.m., BTN). Tickets are available for purchase by contacting the UI Athletic Ticket Office at (800) IA-HAWKS, or online at hawkeyesports.com.
