IOWA CITY, IowaNatalie Looney, a junior transfer from South Carolina is currently in her first season as a Hawkeye. Before transferring to Iowa, Looney was 1-2 in singles play at the No. 6 position in her final season at South Carolina. Hawkeyesports.com caught up with the Overland Park, Kansas native to discuss the upcoming season.

What was the main reason for choosing Iowa?
“I transferred from South Carolina, and when transferring, everyone had awesome things to say about the coach at Iowa. I talked with her on the phone, then came up here for my official visit a couple days later. It was my first visit, and after coming to Iowa and seeing everything I cancelled the other visits and chose Iowa.”

How have you adjusted to Iowa City life?
“It has been a really easy transition.”

How have your teammates helped you with the transition?
“The other girls who have already been here have helped me by introducing me to new people and showing me the ropes.”

What is your favorite thing about Iowa City?
“I love that everyone always has Iowa stuff on and everything is so close. It really feels like a college town.”

What are your goals going into your first season as a Hawkeye?
“I want the team to do as well as we can, come together as a team and be supportive of each other and get some wins.”

What do you typically do before a match? Routine?
“I like a long warm-up, because I like to get a feel and feel comfortable before I go out there. I try not to think as much and just relax.”

What is one thing you miss most from home?
“I miss my teammates, and my family.”

What is your favorite food?
“I like a big burger with cheese only, and fries, then finish it off with a brownie.”

What is your favorite hobby or thing to do besides tennis and school?
“I love watching Netflix.”

What is your favorite holiday?
“My favorite holiday is Christmas.”
