Hawkeyes 11th After 1st Round in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team sits in 11th place after posting a 306 (+18) in the first round of the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational on Monday afternoon.

“It was not a good day for the Hawks today,” said head coach Megan Menzel. “We are back to work this afternoon and looking for a strong finish in the tournament.”

Junior Jessie Sindlinger and sophomore Jessica Ip paced the Hawkeyes, both posting a first round 75 (+3). Sindlinger made par on 13 holes and added a birdie on hole 12, while Ip made par on 15 holes in first round action. The pair is tied for 27th.

Senior Amy Ihm recorded the second-best finish on the day for Iowa. The senior made par on 14 holes en route to a 77 (+5). Ihm is currently tied for 43rd.

Rounding out the Hawkeyes are freshman Kristin Glesne and sophomore Elisa Suarez, who both carded a 79 (+7). Glesne’s first round was highlighted by nine holes at par and birdies on holes one and 17, while Suarez made par on 12 holes. The pair is tied for 60th after the first round of action.

The New Mexico State Aggie Invitational continues tomorrow with a 9:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
