IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior defensive back Jordan Lomax has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America second team. The announcement was made Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Lomax (5-foot-10, 205 pounds) is a senior from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He earned third team All-Big Ten honors this season from league coaches after earning honorable mention honors from the coaches as a junior. Lomax started all 12 games this season at free safety, helping the Hawkeyes to a perfect record and Big Ten West Division title.
Lomax is third on the team with 82 tackles, including 37 solo stops and 45 assists. He has one interception, six pass break-ups and a forced fumble. He has 25 career starts and recorded 186 career tackles.
Lomax, a graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School, earned academic All-Big Ten honors each of the past two seasons. The economics major was named a Capital One District 6 Academic All-American a year ago and is a member of the UI Dean’s List. Lomax carries a 3.49 grade point average and has been a member of Iowa’s Leadership Group the past three seasons.
Lomax plays a key role for Iowa defense, as the Hawkeyes rank among national leaders in turnover margin (4th), rushing defense (6th), interceptions (8th), and takeaways (12th).
In the last 17 seasons under UI head coach Kirk Ferentz, 25 Iowa football student-athletes have combined to earn academic All-District and All-America recognition on 47 occasions.
Iowa (12-0, 8-0) has won a school-record 12 games this season, and plays Michigan State on Saturday in the Big Ten Conference title game. Kickoff is at 7:17 p.m. (CT) on FOX from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
