Elena has received exceptional coaching from Spartaco Barbo at her home club in Trieste and her level of accomplishment in both the 1x and crew boats reflects that. There’s no doubt that Elena has the ability to make a significant impact on the Hawkeye program. She’s going to do really well here.”
Katie Pearson — Victoria, BC (Claremont Secondary School)
? 2014: Placed runner-up in the U17 women’s 4+ and 8+ at the Royal Canadian Henley with Victoria City Rowing Club
? 2015: Finished second in the women’s 4+ and 8+ CanAmMex Regatta with team Canada and helped to obtain an overall win for Canada.
Coach Andrew Carter on Pearson: “When I first became aware of Katie, she passed the eye test pretty quickly. The quality of her junior experience in Victoria is second to none and there’s no question as to how she was able to catch the eye of Rowing Canada. Katie rowed on the Canadian team at the CanAmMex Regatta with two of our current team members and received high praise from them. Despite already representing her country, I think Katie has only scratched the surface with her rowing, and we’re going to see some great things from her over the next four years.”
Hannah Greenlee — Ames, Iowa (Ames HS)
? Rowed for the Des Moines Rowing Club
? Lettered in track and volleyball for three years
Coach Andrew Carter on Greenlee: “We’ve gotten to know Hannah through our clinic program and have been impressed with her athleticism and coachability. While she’s newer to rowing, she has a strong athletic background in track and volleyball, and has shown a real knack at picking up the rowing stroke. I really think Hannah is going to find her athletic home in collegiate rowing, and that she’s going to be a great talent-transfer story.”
