IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa field hockey senior Alexandra Pecora has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. It marks the second weekly honor of Pecora’s career and the third straight honor for the Hawkeyes this season.

A native of Marlton, New Jersey, Pecora helped the Hawkeyes improve to 5-1 on the season with wins over Monmouth (4-0) and Kent State (2-0) last weekend. The goalkeeper registered back-to-back shutouts, recording one save against Monmouth and six against Kent State.

Pecora owns a 5-1 record in six games this season. Iowa has equaled the team’s best start in five years.

Iowa has earned a weekly honor in each of the first three weeks. Katie Birch garnered back-to-back Freshman of the Week accolades on Aug. 30 and Sept. 6.

No. 19 Iowa returns to action this weekend, hosting Penn State (Sept. 16) and Ball State (Sept. 18) at Grant Field.
