Pecora Named NFHCA Defensive Player of The Week

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa field hockey senior Alexandra Pecora has been named Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Player of the Week, the NFHCA office announced Wednesday. It marks the first national weekly honor of Pecora’s career.
 
Pecora, who earned her second career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award Tuesday, helped the Hawkeyes improve to 5-1 on the season with wins over Monmouth (4-0) and Kent State (2-0) last weekend. The goalkeeper registered back-to-back shutouts, recording one save against Monmouth and six against Kent State.
 
In her four years at Iowa, the Marlton, New Jersey, native has played in a total of 44 games and accumulated 179 saves. Pecora has five shutouts in her career.
 
Pecora owns a 5-1 record in six games this season. Iowa has equaled the team’s best start in five years.   
 
No. 16 Iowa returns to action this weekend, hosting No. 4 Penn State (Sept. 16) and Ball State (Sept. 18) at Grant Field. Admission is free.
