Women’s Tennis Season Continues at Wildcat Invite

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team continues its fall season this weekend at the Wildcat Invite on the campus of Northwestern University. The outdoor tournament will be played at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. If inclement weather moves into the area, matches will be played indoors at the Combe Tennis Center.
 
Eight Hawkeyes are competing in various singles and doubles tournaments Friday through Sunday. They include Elise van Heuvelen and Anastasia Reimchen (purple division), Carin Runefelt and Aimee Tarun (white division), Zoe Douglas and Adorabol Huckleby (green division), and Taylor Tamblyn and Montana Crawford (red division).
 
In the doubles tournament, Van Heuvelen with pair with Douglas in the “A” bracket with Huckleby and Runefelt. Crawford and Tamblyn will pair in the “B” bracket with Tarun and Reimchen.
 
The Hawkeyes opened the season last weekend in Minneapolis, posting a 25-6 singles mark and 17-6 doubles record during the four-day Gopher Invite.
 
“We had some quality wins last weekend,” said UI head coach Sasha Schmid. “It was nice to see the team get out and battle. This week will be a greater challenge. We are going to see some very good players.”
 
Other schools participating at the Wildcat Invite include host Northwestern, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Kentucky, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, UIC, and Wisconsin.  Results will be available at hawkeyesports.com and NUSports.com.
