SOUTH BEND, Ind. — University of Iowa men’s tennis student-athlete Jason Kerst went 2-for-2 on Saturday at the Bayliss Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
The freshman defeated Afonso Salgado of Indiana, 3-6,6-3,6-3. He then took on Louisville’s Sean Donahue for another three-set win, 5-7, 6-1,6-3.
Hawkeye senior Robin Haden split his matches in South Bend today. Haden beat Salgado, 2-6,6-2,6-3, after losing to Donahue, 6-2,6-1.
Tony Leto dropped both of his singles matches to Marquette student-athletes. The sophomore lost, 7-6,6-4, to Mackenzie Stearns and 7-6,2-6,6-2 to Brandon Shanklin.
On Sunday, Haden and Kerst are slated to take on the Notre Dame team of Daniel Rayl and Guillermo Cabrera in doubles. In singles, Haden will face Shakeel Manjii of Memphis, Kerst will play Penn State’s Henry Gordon, and Leto will take on William Peikarsky of Indiana.
