GymHawks Announce 2016-17 Schedule

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa women’s gymnastics head coach Larissa Libby announced the 2016-17 schedule on Thursday. The Hawkeyes host seven home events this season, including the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series dual on March 4 and the Big Five Meet on March 11.

Iowa — who finished last season ranked No. 18 — will face four teams that finished in the top of 25 of last year’s GymInfo/Troester Collegiate Rankings, including No. 3 LSU, No. 12 Nebraska, No. 23 George Washington, and No. 25 Illinois.

The GymHawks kick off the season with the annual Black and Gold Intrasquad on Dec. 3. Iowa opens its regular season home slate on Jan. 13, hosting Michigan State inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Hawkeyes also host California-Berkley on Jan. 15, Maryland on Jan. 29, and Illinois and Illinois-Chicago on Feb. 11.

The Hawkeyes will square-off with the Cyclones in their annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series match-up at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on March 4, before hosting the Big Five Meet on March 11.The top three teams at each Big Five Meet will advance to the Big Ten Championship hosted by Rutgers on March 18 in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

The GymHawks travel to seven different cities to compete in regular season road meets this season.

The Hawkeyes hit the road for the first time on Jan. 8, taking on Northern Illinois in Dekalb, Illinois. The Hawkeyes also compete in duals at Ohio State (Jan. 21) and Nebraska (Feb. 5).

Iowa then travels to Washington, D.C., on Feb. 17 to compete in the Quad Meet against George Washington, Maryland, and William & Mary, before heading to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to face LSU and George Washington for a second time.

The GymHawks finish their regular season road slate against BYU on Feb. 24.

NCAA Regional competition begins on April 1. The top two teams at each of the six regional sites will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for April 14-16 in St. Louis, Missouri. Iowa has had representation at every NCAA Regional since 2005 — with three season sof individual representation and nine team appearances.

Season tickets are available now. They can be purchased online, by calling 1.800.IA.HAWKS, or in person at the Iowa Athletics Ticket Office at the north entrance of Carver- Hawkeye Arena.

Season tickets are $42 and seating is general admission. Youth ages 18 and under receive free admission to all regular season home meets. All fans who purchase season tickets by Jan. 17 will receive a free Iowa Women’s Gymnastics sweatshirt, which will be available for pick at the first three home meets.
