IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa women’s swimmer Hannah Burvill has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the league office. It is the third time Burvill has been honored this season.
The Pyrford, Great Britain, native earned the distinction after winning four events in Iowa’s 156-144 dual victory over Northwestern on Jan. 21 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
Burvill’s most notable win came in the final event of the dual when she led off the 400-yard freestyle relay that finished with a winning time of 3:23.91. The win sealed the Hawkeyes’ second straight Big Ten dual triumph.
Burvill was also a part of the winning 200-medley relay (1:41.13), while swimming to individual victories in the 100 free (50.68) and 200 free (1:49.26). She leads the Hawkeyes in the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle events this season and has the top time in all five relays.
Burvill was previously named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Oct. 5 and Dec. 14. She is the first Hawkeye since Becky Stoughton in 2011-12 to earn the distinction three times in the same season.
Iowa returns to action Feb. 3, hosting Northern Iowa and Western Illinois in its final dual of the season. Action is set to begin at 6 p.m. (CT) at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.
