IOWA CITY, Iowa — Three University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving student-athletes — seniors Emma Sougstad and Calli Head and freshman Thelma Strandberg — will compete at the NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships from March 15-18 in Indianapolis.
The NCAA Championships will be held at the IU Natatorium. Sougstad will compete in the 200 IM on Thursday, 100-yard breaststroke Friday, and 200 breast Saturday; Head and Strandberg will dive off the platform Saturday.
It is the third straight year the Hawkeyes will be represented at the NCAA Championships.
Sougstad enters the meet with the 12th-fastest time in the country in the 100 breast, swimming a 59.31 at the Big Ten Championships on Feb. 17. The Forest City, Iowa, native is a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier, earning honorable-mention honors in the 100 breast last season.
Head is making her third NCAA Championships appearance off the platform. The Wisconsin native qualified for the meet with a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships on March 8. Head, Iowa’s school record holder, placed 31st at the NCAA meet in 2016 after finishing 40th in her inaugural championships in 2015.
Strandberg will make her NCAA Championships debut after qualifying for the meet via an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships. The Norway native had a career-best score of 242.30 during the prelims at the Zone meet.
