Head Earns 1st-Team All-America Honors

INDIANAPOLIS — University of Iowa senior Calli Head closed out her Hawkeye diving career with an All-America performance at the NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships.
 
The Wisconsin native posted a fifth-place finish in the morning prelims of the platform diving competition to advance to her first “A” final. She finished with 289.30 points to secure her first career All-America distinction.
 
In the finals, Head accumulated a five-dive total of 280.45 points to place sixth overall.  Her performance gave Iowa 13 team points, giving it 26 for the championships to tally a 26th-place finish.
 
It is Iowa’s highest team finish since 2005 when the Hawkeyes placed 23rd.
 
Head caps her career as a three-time NCAA qualifier. She is the co-school record-holder off the platform with a 312.20 performance that she set at the 2016 Big Ten Championships during her bronze medal performance.
 
Freshman Thelma Strandberg also completed off the platform Saturday in her first career NCAA Championships.  She finished 35th in the prelims with a five-dive total of 215.60.
