SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Former University of Iowa track and field All-American Aaron Mallett won his pro debut Thursday at the TrackTown Summer Series in San Francisco, California.

Mallett, a member of the New York Empire, ran a lifetime best 13.37 in the 110-meter hurdles to win the eight-person field.

“With that group of guys you have to get out and execute your race well,” Mallett told FloTrack after the race. “I told myself to keep my feet fast and keep moving through the line. There are 10 barriers. Don’t rush anything and have a good time. The atmosphere here is great and it was a fun race.”

Mallett advances to the final round of the TrackTown Summer Series. He races in New York City on July 6 at Icahn Stadium in Randall’s Island Park. The meet is televised on ESPN.

The TrackTown Summer Series’ second of three stops is Portland, Oregon. Former Hawkeye All-American Erik Sowinski will run for the San Francisco Surge on July 2 in the 800 meters at 12:55 p.m. Sowinski won the event during last year’s inaugural TrackTown Summer Series with a time of 1:45.38.
