LINCOLN, Neb. — University of Iowa women’s tennis player Elise van Heuvelen won the women’s singles championship at the ITA Summer Circuit on Monday at the University of Nebraska.
Van Heuvelen, the top seed in the tournament, won all four matches in straight sets, including a dominating 6-1, 6-1 victory over third-seeded Claire Reifeis in the finals.
Van Heuvelen, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year, partnered with teammate Zoe Douglas to place runner-up in the women’s doubles tournament Sunday. The pair advanced to the finals with consecutive 8-0 shutouts before falling 8-7 in the championship match.
