Iowa Women’s Golf Announces 2017-18 Schedule

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa head women’s golf coach Megan Menzel announced the 2017-18 schedule Tuesday. The Hawkeyes are slated to play nine regular season events — including the 2nd annual Hawkeye- El Tigre Invitational in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — before entering the championship portion of their schedule.

34529“We have an outstanding schedule this year,” said Menzel. “We play some distinguished courses and are looking forward to some new tournaments this year. We will compete against the best teams in the country, and we will need to be prepared each time we tee it up.” 

Iowa begins its fall season at the Branch Law Firm Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Sept. 11-18, before heading to the 2017 Mercedes Benz Women’s Collegiate Championship in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Sept. 18-19.

The fall schedule also includes the UNC Ruth Chris Tar Heel Invitational (Oct. 13-15) and the Louisville 1st Annual Ladies Fall Collegiate (Oct. 27-29).

The Hawkeyes open their spring slate at the 7th Annual Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Arizona, on Feb. 25-26. Sophomore Sophie Liu finished 10th and senior Jessica Ip placed 16th in the event last year. Liu recorded a career-low, 54-hole score, of 215 (-1).

The Hawkeyes return to Arizona twice more during the spring for the 2018 Arizona Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, March 5-6, and the Arizona State Invitational in Tempe, March 23-25.

Iowa hosts the 2nd Annual Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico on March 16-18. Senior Morgan Kukla fired her career-low round of 71 at the tournament last year.
Iowa concludes its regular season at the 2018 Bruzzy Challenge in Carrolton, Texas, April 1-3.

The Hawkeyes open postseason play at the 2018 Big Ten Championships in Cincinnati, Ohio, on April 20-22. The 2018 Division I Women’s Golf Regionals will be played at four different host sites from May 7-9, while the 2018 National Championship will take place at Karsten Kreek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma, from May 18-23.

Iowa returns eight letterwinners and welcomes two newcomers to the 2017-18 squad, including senior Jessica Ip. In the fall of 2015, Ip recorded the lowest individual season average in program history (72.5). Her 74.2 stroke average in the spring of 2017, marks the sixth-lowest average in school history. Last year, Ip help lead the Hawkeyes to the second-lowest team stroke average in Iowa history (76.0).
