QUOTING HEAD COACH LISA CELLUCCI
“Being down two goals leaves no choice but to spark. We have a ton of newcomers in some key positions and we weren’t poised in the first 15 minutes and we gave up two goals. We settled down and we were able to gain possession and incrementally get ourselves back into the game.”
“We’ll debrief and go over North Carolina. They are an outstanding team, No. 1 in the country, but we can take a lot from what we did today into tomorrow.”
- Sophomore Katie Birch scored Iowa’s two goals off penalty corners in the first half to tie the score at 2-2.
- Senior Melissa Progar and junior Makenna Grewe were each credited with two assists. Both assists set up Birch on the penalty corner goals.
- Senior Katie Jones recorded four saves in the opening match of the 2017 season.
The Hawkeyes return to Grant Field on Sunday, hosting No. 1 North Carolina at 2 p.m. (CT). Admission is free.
