PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The 19th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team edged Penn, 3-2, Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawkeyes got on the board first scoring in the 23rd minute. Freshman Maddy Murphy received a pass from Katie Birch in the center of the circle and found the back of the cage. Penn tied the match right before halftime and scored again in the 48th minute to take a 2-1 lead. Freshman Lizzy Cimilluca tailed her second goal of the season in the 49th minute. Cimilluca deflected a shot into the cage to tie the game, 2-2. Senior Mallory Lefkowitz scored in the 57th minute off of a pass from Nikki Freeman to secure the 3-2 victory for the Hawkeyes

- Senior goalkeeper Katie Jones made three saves in the victory. Jones is now 4-5 on the season.
- Cimilluca’s goal marks her second-career goal as a Hawkeye.
- Freeman’s assist on the game winning goal marked her first-career point.

The Hawkeyes continue their east coast road trip next weekend with a pair of Big Ten matches. Iowa will take on No. 9 Maryland at 3 p.m. (CT) on Friday in College Park, Maryland. The Hawkeyes then take on Rutgers at noon on Sunday in Piscataway, New Jersey.
