COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The 19th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team was edged by No. 10 Maryland Friday afternoon, 2-1. The Hawkeyes are now 4-6 on the season. Five of Iowa’s losses have come to top-15 teams.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half featured great defense and goaltending from both sides. Katie Jones and the Hawkeyes turned away Maryland’s six shots and two penalty corners in the first half. The Terrapins broke the tie in the 60th minute and added their second goal in the 62nd minute. The Hawkeyes got on the board in the 68th minute when freshman Maddy Murphy scored off a give and go with Taylor Omweg. Maryland was able to hold off the Hawkeyes for the 2-1 victory.

  • Senior goalkeeper Katie Jones made seven saves in the loss.
  • The Hawkeyes faced five penalty corners in the match and turned away four them.
  • Iowa registered 11 shots this afternoon, with Makenna Grewe leading the way for the Hawkeyes with four.
