IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa Student-Athlete Academic Services has recognized senior Josey Jewell (Football) and sophomore Katie Birch (Field Hockey) as September’s male and female student-athletes of the month.
This honor, voted by their peers, recognizes student-athletes who have excelled not only in their sport, but in the classroom as well.
Jewell leads the Big Ten and ranks third in the nation with 60 tackles in five games. His 8.5 tackles-for-loss also leads the conference. He has recorded 32 tackles over the last two weeks, twice matching his career high with 16 vs. Penn State and 16 at Michigan State.
Birch, a defender for Iowa, leads the Hawkeyes with ten goals, three assists, and 23 points in ten games throughout the month of September. Birch also leads the Big Ten goals (12) and second in points (27)
The Iowa football team has a bye week this weekend before traveling to Northwestern on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. (CT).
The Iowa Field Hockey team returns to action Friday, Oct. 13, against Northwestern. The game is set to start at 3 p.m.
