TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team picked up two wins in singles and two wins in the final round of doubles on the second day of the Florida State All-Conference Showdown on Saturday.
Sophomore Elise van Heuvelen advanced to the consolation final of the Gold bracket by defeating Ioanna Markesini of Eastern Tennessee State, 6-2, 6-4. Senior Anastasia Reimchen also reached the consolation final of the Seminole bracket with a win over Anne Sophie Courteau from West Virginia, 6-3, 6-3.
Freshman Danielle Bauers dropped her match to Luisa Zirilli from Middle Tennessee State, 7-5, 6-2, in the Osceola bracket. Due to an injury default, Bauers was moved to the Garnet bracket and will play in place of Sofia Duran from West Virginia in the consolation finals.
Junior Adorabol Huckleby dropped her match to Nancy Karaky from Troy, 7-6 (6), 6-1. Huckleby will compete for seventh place in the Speicher bracket on Sunday.
Freshman Danielle Burich lost to Hannah Seizer from Troy, 6-1, 7-6, and will play for seventh place in the Spear bracket.
Van Heuvelen and Huckleby won the consolation final of the doubles Gold bracket, defeating Jordan and Goetz of West Virginia, 8-5. In the doubles Garnet bracket, Reimchen and Burich defeated Ferrett and Kerman from Furman, 8-3 to place seventh.
“I thought we did a good job staying focused throughout our matches,” said University of Iowa assistant coach Daniel Leitner. “The girls stuck to their game plans and executed well on big points to close out matches.”
The Hawkeyes will conclude their fall season tomorrow with the final round of singles.
