IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa breaststroker Daniel Swanepoel has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the Big Ten office.
 
34535The Cape Town, Africa, native earned the distinction after swimming to three career-bests and three NCAA “B” qualifying times at the Minnesota Invitational from Nov. 30-Dec. 2
 
Swanepoel finished second overall in the 100 breast (53.74) and the 200 breast (1:57.18), before swimming to a 1:49.01 time in the 200 IM to lead the Hawkeyes.
 
The Iowa men’s swimming and diving team returns to action Jan. 12-13, hosting Notre Dame at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center in Iowa City.
