IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving team swept the Big Ten Conference weekly honors, the league office announced Wednesday.
Senior Shea Hoyt was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, while Kelsey Drake was tabbed as Big Ten Freshman of the Week, and junior Jacintha Thomas received Big Ten Diver of the Week honors for the second time this season.
The Hawkeyes defeated the Cyclones, 172.5-127.5, on Dec. 8 in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. Hoyt earned this recognition following a first place finish in the 200 breast against the Cyclones, posting an NCAA “B” qualifying and season-best time of 2:14.22.
Drake receives her first Big Ten honor following two individual wins, claiming victories in the 200 fly and 200 IM. She posted a 1:59.99 time in the 200 fly, before touching in at 2:02.46 in the 200 IM.
Thomas received the nod for Big Ten Diver of the Week following wins off the 1-meter and 3-meter with scores of 284.50 and 291.15. This is Thomas’ third career Big Ten recognition.
Iowa has claimed nine Big Ten weekly honors this season.
The Hawkeyes return to action Jan. 12-13, hosting Notre Dame and Illinois at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.
