THIS WEEK:
The University of Iowa men’s tennis team will head to the East Coast to take on 14th-ranked Dartmouth of the Ivy League. The match will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m. (ET) in Hanover, New Hampshire.
WEEKEND RECAP:
• The Hawkeyes enter this weekend on a four-match win streak, extending their streak with a pair of victories over Creighton (7-0) and Denver (5-2) last Friday in Iowa City.
• Iowa is back to .500 for the first time this season since Jan. 19.
DARTMOUTH PREVIEW:
• The Big Green enters Saturday’s match with an undefeated record, 12-0.
• Dartmouth’s No. 14 ranking is its highest ranking in program history.
• In doubles, sophomores Charlie Broom and David Horneffer are ranked 17th nationally. Freshman Dan Martin is No. 101 in the singles rankings.
• Dartmouth coming of its first ECAC Championship in school history.
• The Hawkeyes lead the all-time series with the Big Green, 10-6, which includes a 4-3 triumph in Iowa City a year ago on Feb. 5, 2017.
STARTING MATCHES STRONG:
Iowa has earned the doubles point in eight of its ten matches, starting matches against Marquette, Western Michigan, Arkansas, Miami, Arizona, IUPUI, Creighton, and Denver leading 1-0. The Hawkeyes lost the doubles point to No. 4 Georgia by a narrow margin, dropping courts one and two in tiebreakers.
Jonas Larsen and Kareem Allaf are 8-2 playing on court one in doubles so far this season, with one of their defeats coming in a tiebreak (7-3) to Georgia’s eighth-ranked doubles squad in the country.
3 FRESHMEN WIN 5 SINGLES MATCHES ON FRIDAY:
Freshmen Will Davies, Piotr Smietana, and Joe Tyler all picked up wins on Friday in a successful doubleheader sweep where the Hawkeyes outscored Creighton and Denver a combined, 12-2.
Tyler and Davies won two matches each, while Smietana was victorious in his only singles match versus Denver.
