THIS WEEK FOR THE HAWKEYES
The University of Iowa women’s tennis team plays at Iowa State on Wednesday at LifeTime Fitness in Des Moines, Iowa at 4 p.m. (CT).

“We are really looking forward to a great match on Wednesday with Iowa State. It’s always special for the state when we get an Iowa State vs. Iowa matchup. It will be a great competitive match for us.”

HAWKEYES ON THE ROAD
The Hawkeyes are 3-3 on the road. They grabbed three wins, two at Montana and SMU along with an upset over Notre Dame. They suffered losses at Washington State, Illinois and No. 14 Northwestern. The Hawkeyes hold a 0-1 record with a loss against Washington State when playing at a neutral site. 

38006IOWA VS. IOWA STATE
The Hawkeyes are 36-0 all-time against Iowa State. That includes a 5-0 record in Cy-Hawk Series matches. Head coach Sasha Schmid was 4-0 against the Cyclones as a Hawkeye student-athlete from 1993-96. She was an 3-0 as a UI assistant coach from 1997-99, and she won her only meeting as UI head coach in 2017, 5-0.

IOWA CORN CY-HAWK SERIES
Weneday’s match is the 10th event of the 2017-18 Cy-Hawk Series. Iowa leads the current series, 11-8. Including Wednesday’s match, there are three events left in the season series. Iowa State hosts women’s gymnastics on March 9, and softball on April 25. The Cy-Hawk Series is in its 14th season in 2017-18, being sponsered for the seventh time by Iowa Corn. The all-time series is tied, 6-6-1. A commemorative Cy-Hawk Series Cup, which stands 31 inches tall and weighs 19 pounds, is displayed on the winning team’s campus for an entire year after a victory. Replica cups are also presented as “traveling trophies” for individual victorious teams in the head-to-head competition.

VAN HEUVELEN DOWNING RANKED OPPONENTS
Sophomore Elise van Heuvelen defeated two ranked opponents against No. 14 Northwestern on March 4. She pairedwith senior Anastasia Reimchen to trounce No. 13 Alex Chatt and Lee Or, 6-3. She then went on to top No. 88 Or in a third set tiebreaker, 6-2, 1-6, 7-5. These two victories put van Heuvelen at a 8-3 singles record and 8-2 in doubles.  

BIG TEN MATCHUPS APPROACHING 
Iowa is just one week shy of Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes’ first three matches are within four days of each other. Iowa plays Penn State on Wednesday, March 14, and hosts Michigan and Michigan State on March 16 and 18.
